That's a good car to learn on. I learned on a 1970 Opel Kadett that my grandfather gave to my brother in the late 80's, I was 10 years old. Glad you are learning, everyone needs to know how to drive a manual. My mom always said we had to learn to drive stick incase there was an emergency and the only thing available was a manual. My first car was an automatic 1986 Toyota Celica. I loved the car but wished it was a stick. Everything I've bought after that first car has been a manual.

I learned on a lifted Jeep Wrangler lol

Doesn't matter what you learn on (as long as you aren't responsible for the tranny!) I drove some of the best and some of the worst as I made my way down the magical manual road. It has made and broken cars for me, but now I'm rambling...alcohol...

I learned on my '93 Saab 900S. I had a real "Sink or swim" moment when I locked myself out of the house in a t shirt in 30 degree weather and my mom was on a date a town away. I had my car key so it was either learn manual or hypothermia. I learned pretty quick. Felt like a scene from a movie. hahaha

Good on you. It doesn't matter what you learn on, the same principles apply to every manual transmission. I learned on an old early 70's Ford pickup with a three speed column shift.

Opel Kadett(?)...OLIVERRRRRRRR!

yeah, I have no idea where my grandpa got it, it was fine for low speed jaunts around the neighborhood but it was literally the slowest thing I've ever driven. The heater and defrost were pathetic, even on full blast defrost, the inside of the windshield would frost up as you were driving. It was very similar to Oliver on the outside and exactly like it on the inside except it was LHD.

My friends dad had an old ford pickup with a straight six and a 3-speed column shift. That thing was super slow but I found it really fun to drive.

Cool, I wish I could drive a stick car around (Not old enough).

Just make sure you at least can drive a stick when your old enough just in case the situation ever comes up where you need to drive and the only thing available is a stick. I think it's an important skill to have. Just don't wish your life away, I spent my whole childhood wishing I was older, now as an adult well into my 30s I wish I was young again. Being young is a glorious thing, enjoy every minute of it.

Of course! My first car will be manual though, I will not except anything else.lol. I could probably get in a car and drive stick now though, it's just an age issue.

No need to rush things, these days if your caught driving before you're 16, you can't get your license until your at least 18, sometimes 21 depending on the state.

Congratulations on starting your journey with the best driving experience possible! I can't imagine going back to driving an automatic for any extended period of time.

Possibly, but probably not safe enough. I know in advance my budget will be under 6K$. I'm thinking Saab 9000 aero because I love those. They're on the rise now though.:( I recently found one for my dad so I know the current value. It's about $5500 for a pretty nice one.

Yup, it's so hard. I am way to young.

Oh man, in CA you can def get a good Miata for under 6k! Where are you?

You probably can here too! North east... CT. I'm about 2 years from driving. Don't calculate my age... it makes most people mad. Yup, I'm about to turn to an age where I have 2 years left.
